Brainerd Minnesota History
Markers & Monuments!
10/5/2016:
It was not too long ago that just a handful of historical markers were to be found in all of Brainerd. There were a few OLD ones, mostly in parks, and the 1971 Centennial series of 18, but only half of them were to be found! Then a movement was started to get marking! That is when I couldn't keep them straight in my head and actually needed to make a list. Here I will attempt to do just that, so give me some time. Click the button below for a start!

2020/9/28: There is a new sheriff in town! Well, a new type of marker anyway. It's called KIOSK, or kind of an info booth. The idea is to get the history of the site, well, ON THE SITE. 40 "Then & Now" placards have been placed in the core downtown area that are along the same theme. You find this marker on a street pole and see a photo that was taken decades ago, then peer around the sign to see the NOW view. There is only so much room on a one-foot square sign, but kiosks can bring a half dozen such slides all in one spot. These weatherproof kiosks have been placed in 3 of our most-used and interesting parks...Kiwanis, Lum and Gregory. You can find a TIMELINE of the history of that park, and plenty of old photos. Go check them out!
Here is the Gregory Park timeline:
