RESEARCH!

What's to research, right?

Well, after a haffa century of collecting Grain Belt Beer items, and a decade of selling it, my duplicates, I have accumulated some good info on the signs and all manner of advertising.  Perhaps some of it could be helpful to fellow collectors.  My Dad was the type to put out ALL advertising, and he kept  nearly nothing.  He had me going out replacing bulbs, starters and even clock motors to keep the stuff out in the market.  I learned lot of tricks!

If you have a question on an item, such as its age, or how to maintain it, give me a holler!  Here is a start, below, just click the link of your choice.

NOTE, 3/2/2021: I have placed a PDF of my copy of the Friendly Faucet magazine, April of 1937, the first issue, below. As a collector, I know that copying of advertising items can be risky and self-defeating as it tends to devalue one's original, as well as that of other collectors. In  this case I believe these old trade magazines are much more than a collector piece, rather, a valuable RESEARCH tool. For this reason I share it here in hopes that it will not be reproduced for sale, but used to help determine the age and history of your advertising pieces, and increase your knowledge...and enjoyment of the hobby! It would be wonderful if ALL of the issues could be scanned as well!  The publication following this one was called "The Grain Belt Diamond," and is even more helpful in determining the age of advertising pieces. Just a dream!

This copy was originally sent to distributor John J. Kirsch in Victoria, Minn.  I only discovered this yesterday after shining a flashlight behind the front page where the stamp was obliterated with white-out.  No clue why that was done!

2021/3/14: Let' talk about FAKES...it's getting bad.  See the link below.

2021/4/13: All you may not want to know about the cardboard placard that were made to hold the plaster and plastic animal series.  See link below.

2021/4/22: Finally, Acetates, Canvasettes, and Transparencies explained!
Similar, some overlapping, but SO different! Bu briefly, here are the differences:

---Acetates: PLASTIC sheets with double-faced tape on the back, for the 5' long Domination Sign
---Canvasettes: Plasticised PAPER prints, much larger for Wall Displays.
---Transparencies: PAPER sheets for the 1964 Modular Series Tel-A-Sign lighted signs.  The white space at the bottom is to show off the lettering on the sign, and hold up the paper insert.
2022/5/17: How to determine the date of that item.
